At the MRC Pontiac’s regular council meeting yesterday, the President and Vice-President of the non-profit organisation, Fibre Pontiac, Pierre Vézina and Denis Larivière respectively, presented their progress report on the development of the forest Biomass Conversion Centre (CVB).
The highlight of the report was feedback on an important meeting held in September at the US headquarters of the potential developer of a biorefinery in the Pontiac. A private investor and representatives from Investissement Québec, CanmetENERGY, and the National Research Council Canada were also present.
A biorefinery for the transformation of wood fibre into bioproducts is the hub of the larger CVB project, which is at the heart of MRC Pontiac’s strategy to relaunch its forest industry. Since 2013, the MRC Pontiac, the Government of Quebec, and the federal government have invested nearly $ 500,000 in scientific and technical-economic studies, technological prospecting and project management.
The total cost of the CVB is estimated at $ 123 million.
At the end of the presentation, MRC Council reiterated, by resolution, its unanimous support for the CVB project and Fibre Pontiac for the next steps in the implementation of a biorefinery.
